Murat Gül
Prof., Dean of the Faculty of Architecture, Istanbul Technical University
Professor Murat Gül earned his bachelor’s degree in Architecture and his master’s degree in Heritage Conservation from the Department of Architecture at Mimar Sinan University in 1991and 1995 respectively. In 2006 he completed his PhD at the University of Sydney, and between 1999 and 2009 worked as a specialist at NSW Department of Planning, NSW Heritage Office and lecturer at the University of Sydney, Faculty of Architecture. In 2009 he was appointed as a Founding Chair of the Department of Architecture at the International University of Sarajevo, and between 2012 and 2014 worked as an Associate Professor at TOBB University of Economics and Technology in Ankara. In 2014 he began to work at Istanbul Technical University (ITU), Department of Architecture, and since 2017 has been working as the Dean of ITU Faculty of Architecture. He is the author of The Emergence of Modern Istanbul: Transformation and Modernisation of a City (IB Tauris, 2009) and Architecture and the Turkish City: An Urban History of Istanbul Since the Ottomans (IB Tauris, 2017) and co-author of Istanbul Architecture (Watermark Press, 2013). Gül is serving as a member of the editorial board of academic journals, national and international committees of various research and professional institutions.
