Hande Paker

Hande Paker is a political sociologist who works on civil society, state, cosmopolitan citizenship, and political ecology. She has carried out research and published on modes of civil society-state relations, politics of the environment and climate at the local-global nexus. Her articles have appeared in various edited volumes and international journals such as Voluntas, Environmental Politics, Theory and Society, and Middle Eastern Studies. She has been a previous Mercator-IPC fellow at Istanbul Policy Center, Sabancı University (2015-16) and a visiting scholar at CliSAP, Hamburg University. She is currently working on comparative research that analyses environmental civil society and its engagement with climate justice with a focus on their local and transnational spaces of action.
Hande Paker holds a PhD from McGill University, Canada. She received her MA from McGill University as well and her BA from Boğaziçi University, Turkey. Hande Paker is based at the Faculty of Economics, Administrative and Social Sciences at Bahçeşehir University.
