Professor at the Department of Shipping, Trade and Transport (STT) and the Director of the Transportation and Decision-Making Laboratory at STT. She has served as the Vice-Rector of Research, Development, Finance and Infrastructure at the University of the Aegean (2014-2018). Prof. Polydoropoulou received a Civil Engineer Diploma from the National Technical University of Athens, and a MSc and PhD in Transportation Systems and Decision Sciences from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Dr. Polydoropoulou’s areas of research include transportation systems, transportation demand, market research, and econometrics. She has extensive experience on primary data collection, demand modeling, forecasting techniques, and business models development. She has conducted worldwide market research on user response, attitudes and perceptions to the introduction of new modes of transportation and the adoption of innovative technologies such as Autonomous Vehicles, Mobility as a Service, Sharing and Active Transport Systems (modeling mode choice, willingness to pay behaviour, gender differences, and distributed Value of Time). She has leading research work on the impact of the sharing economy and COVID-19 on mobility, Last Mile Deliveries with autonomous vehicles, pods and drones, as well as Urban Air Mobility (UAM) via electric and autonomous vehicles. She has widely published in the academic and professional literature. She has participated in several EU funded projects such as: HARMONY, WeTRANSFORM, WISE-ACT, MaaS4EU, OPTIMUM, USMART, GRETIA, HERMES, INNOSUTRA, PACTS, iPORTS, POET, SLIM-VRT, URIT. She is the Coordinator of the Intelligent Research Infrastructure for Shipping, Supply chain, Transport and Logistics (EN.I.R.I.S.S.T. and EN.I.R.I.S.S.T.+).
