Alan Coday IHBC PhD BSc FHEA – Emeritus Associate Professor Elect at Anglia Ruskin University (ARU), UK. Recently retired, he was ARU’s Built Environment Director of Research and Faculty Director of the Professional Doctorate Programme from 2006-2021. As a materials scientist he specialised in Building Surveying and Conservation of Buildings and directed the MSc Conservation of Buildings course at ARU from 2006 to 2015. He was a Director of the UK Association of Building Preservation Trusts from 2008 to 2016 and is still a Trustee of a local Building Preservation Trust. He has examined 10 PhD and DProfs and Supervised 11 PhD/DProfs to completion and whilst Director he managed 30 of the 59 PhD and DProf candidates in the School of Engineering and Built Environment and was on the supervisory team of 17 candidates studying theses relating to materials, construction management and town planning. He has published on the conservation and management of buildings particularly upon the challenges of adaptive reuse and energy management. Formerly at the Building Research Establishment and the Ove Arup Partnership, Alan has a strong industrial background and academic track record producing over 25 publications since 1996.
